Jah Billah 1’O clock digital mix of Bob Marley & The Wailers «Is This Love» here dubbed «Dub This Love»:

Multitracks performed by Bob Marley, The Wailers and I-Threes are grouped into six following channels: drums, vocals, guitars, organs, horns and bass. Additional seventh channel is trademark in Jah Billah dub mix: track full of «»soundsystem fx»» samples; usually sirens, lasers, lickshots and similar full spectrum sweeps and noises.
Entire mix is performed using «»mutes only»»: push-button style command bringing in & out various channels and switching send/return channel effects on and off. Additional controls are one fader for bringing in & out vocal channel and two rotary knobs for controlling reverb frequency & resonance. Using fader for controlling the volume of vocal group channel allows for reggae track to breath in the dub mix:
One of the key features of dub genre is the the varying volumes of different instrumental or vocal channels during the mix as opposed to flat, non-stop equal volumes of instrumental or vocal channels during the ordinary, normative or traditional mix. Some of historical «instrumental» dub albums have vocal channel running trough entire length of album at background noise levels.
Advantage of recording digital mix is the fact you can go back into recorded parameters and fix certain envelopes of channel volumes giving mix a more natural feeling.
Using analogue outboard mixing desk and «mutes only» technique of dub mixing can result in ruff edges or «clicks» around channels coming in and out especially if the riddim is in fast, steppers style of reggae. Therefore in analogue dub mix, dub mixer should focus more on «fader riding» dub mixing technique, bringing in and out channel volumes in smooth fashion.
Bass channel is made of two duplicate layers of bass track: bottom one for low frequencies and top one which is heavily affected with phasers, reverbs and hi pass filters.
Entire multitrack session loops twice for extended live dub mix with siren bleeps marking the start of tracks making up just under nine minutes of pure dub pleasure.

Dub mix released for educational purposes only.
